Common Market placed a series of advertisements in Frederick Lifestyle magazine, a local magazine that focuses on spotlighting local businesses and happenings. The goal of these advertisements were to educate the public that Common Market is a Frederick landmark for healthy living, is open to everyone who wants to shop, and customers can even become an "owner" where they will receive special perks and have a say in the co-op with opportunities to be on the Board of Directors. Because they were going through expansion and opening a second location, it was equally important to highlight the new location address on the ads.
The use of the wood background on the June edition of the back cover advertisement exemplifies the importance of natural products in Common Market's business model. The co-op only sells products with natural ingredients. The organic vegetables along the side of the ad displays the varieties of fresh produce found just inside the co-op and creates a nice frame for the text and graphic elements.
The gray textured background in the September back cover advertisement showcases the bright colors of the produce and use of natural texture. The co-op was closer to the opening of the second location but did not know the firm date, so "mid-September" was used to get the community excited for the nearing event. For this edition, the "Everyone can shop, Anyone can own!" tagline was a more important message and was moved up in hierarchy. Because of the pandemic, they also wanted to push consumers to support a locally-owned company that sells local produce and products, which in-turn supports the local Frederick economy during hard times.
